Sequeira Lab students present at a Research Symposium

Thankfully, here in Western Australia, the COVID-related travel restrictions have lifted just in time for Hannah CalichLucy Arrowsmith, Michelle VanCompernolle, and Megan Meyers to present their research at a 4-day retreat in Albany (Western Australia) organised by the University of Western Australia’s (UWA) Oceans Graduate School (OGS)!

The OGS retreats aim to bring together students from different marine-related disciplines to broaden their understanding of general ocean science and to effectively exercise science communication. The retreat also presents a great opportunity for PhD students to bond and to recharge from their busy lives as PhD candidates.

Our Sequeira Lab students presented posters and received a lot of positive engagement. During the retreat, they also got the opportunity to explore beautiful Albany: they visited the Albany wind farm, joined in on an Aboriginal walking tour, and also did a tour of the UWA Albany campus, which includes The Great Southern Marine Research Facility – the hub for Australia’s ocean renewable energy sector.

This retreat was the second research symposium for OGS postgraduate students and it was organized by the OGS Student Society Executive Team, which our own Hannah co-founded in September 2018.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the OGS Student Society over the last few years and has helped to make it such a success and worthy experience for students!
